This is the third installment of our series covering the “SOFUBI-ISM” soft vinyl figure exhibition organized by Mr. Hiramoto of Kojika Toys.
This time, we visited Yasuyuki Kobayashi (yama823), President and CEO of Pawretta Co., Ltd., who is the creator of “Mikan Kappa” and “Karegon” and is also active in the fields of high-end jewelry and character prototyping for licensed properties.
Since I’m primarily a collector of independently produced doujin soft vinyl figures, I had a feeling this interview would be very interesting because of the contrast, but at the same time, I was very worried that it would be different from what I was used to and that I might come across as a complete outsider.
As it turned out, Mr. Kobayashi had a wealth of topics to discuss, and using Mr. Hiramoto’s questions as a starting point, the conversation unfolded into one fascinating story after another. It was such an in-depth interview that I completely lost track of time.

In a way, it was a very intense interview (laughs), so I decided to take some time to gather my thoughts before putting it all together into an article.
What follows are just my personal impressions and thoughts.
Some parts may differ from the person’s actual intentions.
I’d appreciate it if you could keep that in mind as you read.
