ソフビ雑記19:アンケート第一次中間集計結果 / Interim results of the first round of the questionnaire〈+Eng sub〉

f:id:smoglog:20200507125244p:plain

This is a corner where I talk about the soft vinyl itself with my shallow knowledge, dogma and prejudice.

In my last article, I created a questionnaire about Soft Vinyl, and asked for responses, but what if we didn't get any at all... I thought, "What if we don't get any at all? Thank you so much! You can still answer the question now, so if you think this trial is interesting, please try to answer it.

Today, I would like to write about my own analysis of the results of the responses up to the present time (May 7, 2020) and the intention of the questions.

Please note that the results of the analysis are only my imagination, and I cannot guarantee that the answers will be correct.

The article is f✗✗king long. It may be the longest on my blog. Be prepared.

 Q1. What's the gender?

結果/Result

f:id:smoglog:20200507130202p:plain

There were 50 males and 2 females.

I simply wanted to know the gender ratio.

I believe that there is still a lot of room for growth in the field of extreme male/female ratios in terms of culture.

Even if it's only men, not all of them are single, and if you have a partner, I wonder if they understand you, or if you can read it from here.

分析/Analysis

Looking at the events and such, I wonder if the percentage of women is higher? I was thinking to myself.

I don't know if the female guests at the event were dating partners or for reasons other than collection... or if the readership of my blog is predominantly male...

If you have a partner and you're suspected at a toy-off party or something, you might be able to show this data to avoid a dangerous situation (laughs).

Q2. What's your age?

結果/Result

f:id:smoglog:20200507131415p:plain

I wondered if knowing the age distribution would help me understand what I was looking for in a Sofubi. It might even give you some tips on choosing a motif.

分析/Analysis

From my skin sense at events, I think there are most people of my generation in the 40's. But about half of them did.

I was a little surprised to see that the 20-40 year olds made up just under 70% of the total.

I thought there would be more of the first and second monster boom generation.

The first Kaiju boom was in the late 1960s, and in terms of age, they belong to a group in their 50s and 70s. The current results show that about 6% of the respondents were in their teens to 60 years old at the time. ~No responses were received from people in their 70s. I guess I've collected so many that I'm not interested in indie sofubi.

I recently learned about the main volume - the 40's - that the current trend in interior design figures is actually the first soft vinyl figures of the apparel brand Bounty Hunter. Bounty Hunter was established in 1995, so it seems to be a sign with the aggregate results.

Currently, there are still a lot of sofubi releases from apparel brands, and it looks like the relationship between fashion and sofubi will continue to run deep in the future.

What I'm glad about the results of this poll is that some of the younger generation of collectors are in their twenties. Writers are getting younger and younger, and the future is bright! I think.

Q3. How long have you been a collector?

結果/Result

f:id:smoglog:20200507134235p:plain

I wanted to find out how many new collectors there were, not by age, but by knowing their collecting history.

分析/Analysis

The most common answer is ~10 years. The same hobby for 10 years is pretty amazing (self-praise).

In Q2, we analyzed that many people in their 40s are related to apparel brands, but it doesn't mean that they have been collecting them for 10 years. There may be some people who miss what they were collecting at that time and say they started collecting again.

I'm guessing that the next volume zone for the next three years will be people who got into soft vinyl during the last soft vinyl boom. The people who have been the most bitterly criticized by globalization and internet resale...well done for enduring it.

Some of the answers come from people with over 50 years of collecting experience. Half a century. I want to be like that.

Q4. Flipping is Necessary or Unnecessary.

結果/Result

f:id:smoglog:20200507135602p:plain

There is one thing that bothers collectors and sometimes makes them grateful: the act of resale. I frankly questioned the pros and cons of this.

分析/Analysis

I predicted that more responses would be neither.

I think it's amazing that there are people who clearly say it's necessary and unnecessary (indecisive).

Emotional arguments aside, just under 80% of the respondents said they are using it (may use it or have given up on eliminating it). I'm a little curious what would have happened if they had answered at the time of the boom.

As I wrote in my previous article, resale is very annoying, but it can be an effective way to get out-of-print items when you can't buy them.

The abundance of "neither" may be a manifestation of a complicated state of mind that I hate as an existence, but have no choice but to sell my soul to the devil for the sake of the collection...

Q5.コレクション整理はどうしますか?(複数回答) How do you organize your collection?(Multiple answers)

結果/Result

f:id:smoglog:20200507140420p:plain

I believe that this question has an inverse relationship to Q4. Initially, what do you do when you retire as a collector? But I didn't want to do that because I felt that such a question would lower the tension....

分析/Analysis

I was surprised to see the answer to "throw away".

After all, "sell" accounted for the majority of the votes.

It's likely that some of the people who said they don't need to resell in Q4 also chose to sell, and some of the people who said they do need to sell didn't.

I don't mean to point out the inconsistencies, but here's the difficulty of the criteria for selecting resale practices.

Presumably, the resale of the collection by those who answered that resale is not necessary is not for money, but only for the purpose of organizing the collection. Or maybe it's because they want to fund a new Sofubi.

Likewise, those who said they needed it may have a reason why they don't want to sell it and can only collect it that way.

Of course, some people may think that any act of putting it on the secondary market is an act of resale. If you want to resell it, throw it away! ...it's going to have to wait!

I hope you don't look at these results and think that resellers are being sought after. It is troubling that the soft vinyl sold yesterday and today is priced many times over. Ideally, it would be a collector's collection, cherished for several years, sold for various reasons, and priced by collector demand.

I was happy to see so many of you choose to keep owning it.

Q6. How much money can you spend on a Sofubi in a month?

結果/Result

f:id:smoglog:20200507142849p:plain

I thought it might be a good reference for Lily Space and pricing. I wondered (desperately) if collectors would be able to find out the pocketbooks of their rivals in the lottery sales.

分析/Analysis

About half of them went to ~$300. I made it here too, just in case. That's about $3600 a year.......... If I wanted it, I'd be pretty much over budget by month, so if I think about it calmly, I might have a better budget. Maybe we all do (laughs)?

People who budget more than $1000 a month are a complete no-win.....

Even for those who responded under $50 or $100, it's not an exaggeration to say that there's almost no soft vinyl you can't buy if you think about it as an annual budget.

Over the above, I'm relieved that the item I'm a millionaire doesn't count. I made it a bit of a joke because I thought the votes here would cast doubt on the authenticity of the survey results.

Q7. What is the price of the most expensive soft vinyl you've ever had?

結果/Result

f:id:smoglog:20200507144247p:plain

I wanted to know the bargain price I could pay for a single product.

分析/Analysis

About 70% of them are in the price range of $100 to $500. Very large sizes and one-of-a-kind items are probably around this size.

When it becomes $1000 or more, a super-rare secondary market product falls under it until a long time ago.

Nowadays, it is common to find sofubi with a price of over $5,000 for sale at solo exhibitions, etc., as they are valued by some artists.

To ensure anonymity, I'm not sure when to buy it, etc., but I'm also interested in when to buy it.

By the way, here's the soft vinyl that was the most expensive in the past for me, and I don't regret buying it, but I wouldn't be able to buy it now (sweat).

smoglog.hatenablog.com

Q8.買うときに大切なことは?(複数回答)What is important to you when you buy?(Multiple answers)

結果/Result

f:id:smoglog:20200507150041p:plain

Here, we tried to clarify whether it's hard or easy to be a newcomer to the sofubi industry. First, what's the most important thing? but I thought that would probably result in most of the "author" votes, so I made it multiple-choice.

分析/Analysis

smoglog.hatenablog.com

In the end, what matters is who the artist is. It was supposed to be, "We're going to do this. To put it in an extreme way, I'll buy anything by a certain person! This means that. The soft vinyl industry has a lot to do with fans, after all. On the other hand, it's possible to think it's an interesting work and pass on buying it because it's an author you don't like.

No matter how great a work is, there is a sense of caution when an obscure artist releases it. Sometimes an acquaintance buys it, other times a respected follower buys it and finally pays attention to it. I wasn't interested in it, but it caught my attention because I collaborated with a writer I liked.

The runner-up was painting. Personally, I found this quite surprising. I thought it would be the motif first. Writers who are good at painting are certainly popular. I was reminded of the importance of painting in soft vinyl.

The third is a motif.

The fourth is now the sale price. The price got quite a few votes, but it still seemed to me to be less important than, say, appliances. If it's an electrical appliance, it may be more important than performance.

The fifth was the molding. This also felt unexpected. The results show that being a molded color or clear or luminescent is important for purchase motivation.

Painting and shaping is probably an attribute that comes with being a writer. With soft vinyl, the same character is sold over and over again in different paint and molded colors, so I thought the motivation for buying a second one in a paint and molded color that you like.

Now let's pick up some of the less important elements of the opposite.

The manufacturing plant and accessories were not voted on.

The fact that we don't know about the manufacturing plant in the first place. I don't know either (laughs). But each factory has its own know-how and specialties, and if I had decided to buy here, I would definitely be a pro at it.For example, wouldn't you be a little concerned if you found out that your products are molded at H×S?

There are no accessories such as stickers, T-shirts, key chains, etc., that you would buy because they are included... well, not really. I thought there could be a way to sell it like a special limited edition set like a game (especially when depreciating), but I don't know.

Package, number of parts, shop, number of pieces, etc. are also low in number of votes.

I forgot to vote myself, but the shop, for example, hates Rakuten, so if it's on sale at Rakuten, I probably won't buy it.

What I didn't expect was the country of manufacture. On the back of the soft vinyl is a Japanese mark, but collectors don't seem to pay any particular attention to it.

Also, I'm quite concerned about the secondary market price. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to sell it, but it feels good to be able to brag about how much my collection is worth.

Result

f:id:smoglog:20200507160137p:plain

Personally, I wanted to see the unpopularity factor rather than the popularity factor. The fact that it's so popular means that it has so many rivals. You've probably taken a look at a lot of the elements I've listed here and checked them against your own collection. Of all the elements that didn't get a vote, this is the definitive one! Isn't it because there is no soft vinyl that can be said to be the best?

I also wanted to show that there are some people who like the elements in a soft toy that could be described as a bad point in a normal toy.

分析/Analysis

It's not a random arrangement of items, in fact it can be divided into several groups.

f:id:smoglog:20200507160711p:plain

Here is the motif. I'm a little biased on the elements, but....

Of all the motifs, the most popular was, of course, the monster. Robots are also very popular. Of these, the ones that seem to have a particularly good chance are plants and insects. What's interesting is that the hero has a character called Kamen Rider, but probably a lot of people don't think they like Kamen Rider because they like the insect element.

Which do you prefer next, the print or the pachymono? This one went up to Pachimono.

Next is the division according to age: ancient, modern, future, and fantasy.

Fantasy came first, didn't it? It might have been a bit much to make fantasy a zeitgeist, though. It's interesting to see how ancient, modern and future are juxtaposed side by side.

f:id:smoglog:20200507161604p:plain

Next is how you feel and how you feel. Each element is in an adversarial relationship. It's an antagonistic relationship, but I don't like or contradict either of them.

Eastern or Western doesn't seem to be particularly unconcerned.

What was personally surprising to me was that innovation received more votes than tradition. It is also interesting to note that the number of gain and loss is equal to or more surprisingly equal to each other.

As for whether it's artistic or technical, the technical one is leading the way right now. I'm a little vague on how to define artistic.

Cool, cute, pretty, weird, artistic, funny, gross, delicate, cheesy, innovative, etc. got a lot of votes.

Conversely, the lesser ones would be sexy, western, etc. Western and sexy... it's no longer a soft vinyl figure, it's a beautiful girl figure (laughs). But as a challenge, it looks interesting.

Q10. The size of your collection

結果/Result

f:id:smoglog:20200507162535p:plain

I was wondering how much everyone is collecting.

In light of the distribution of collector history, is there a correlation? I also thought.

分析/Analysis

There is not much bias and it is quite uneven.

The number is clear, the highest being less than 1,000. There is one vote that says it doesn't count further. I don't know if I've never counted them, or if it means there are too many to count, but I'm a little unsure of the volume... my mistake.

But I'm glad to know that the collector's collection is limited to 1000 pieces.

There doesn't seem to be much correlation in the percentages, even in light of the distribution of collector histories.

I felt that he was buying at his own pace, determining the capacity of his collection and organizing it accordingly. The point is that you can't measure your collecting history by the number of collections. There may be some people who have been collecting for several decades and are proud of only 10 pieces.

Summary of the first interim results
