４月に受注販売された、レストアさんの新作「レストア君」が届きましたので、早速紹介したいと思います。
このキャラクターの初出は、レストアさんオリジナルのRPG「イデアピ－ズエッグ」の主人公=プレイヤーキャラとして登場します。

ソフビのレストア君もゲームと同じく、トイコレクターであり、見習い原型師という設定のようです。まさかソフビになるとは思ってなかったので、驚きました。
全高約12.5センチ。本体９パーツ+ハンマーとノミが付属。成型色は白。
Just like in the game, the soft vinyl Restoration-kun seems to be a toy collector and an apprentice sculptor. I was surprised because I didn't expect it to be a soft vinyl.
The figure is about 12.5cm tall. Comes with 9 parts, plus a hammer and chisel. Molded in white.

レストアさん初？ のミドルサイズのソフビです。このサイズで、本体が９パーツ+オプションパーツ付きというのは、常軌を逸脱した仕様。価格も信じられないくらいお値打ちでした。
おそらく、量産体制を整えて、制作されているんだと思います。受注生産を可能にしているのも、そのためだと思います。ソフビがメジャーシーンで脚光を浴びるようになりつつある状況で、需要をカバーすることがますます難しくなっていっています。
素敵な作品を手軽に安く手に入れることができたら嬉しいですよね。個人クリエイター、インディーズメーカーとして、新しい道を切り開く先駆者の一人と言えるのではないでしょうか。誤解しないでいただきたいのは、他の作家さんやメーカーさんを否定しているわけなく、多様性が生まれたことに注目しています。
Restore's first? This is a middle size soft vinyl figure. This is the first mid-size soft vinyl figure from Restore, and it comes with 9 parts plus optional parts. The price was also unbelievably reasonable.
I think they probably have a mass production system in place to produce them. I think this is also the reason why they are able to produce to order. With soft vinyl coming into the limelight in the major scene, it is becoming more and more difficult to cover the demand. As an individual creator and indie maker, I guess you could say that I'm one of the pioneers in opening up new avenues. Don't get me wrong, I'm not denigrating other artists and makers, but I'm focusing on the diversity that has been created. It would be nice to be able to easily get a nice piece of art at a reasonable price, wouldn't it?
お顔は、レストアさんのロゴにもあり、代表作の一つでもある「干し首」をモチーフにされています。
The face is based on the motif of the "dry head," which is also in Restore's logo and one of their representative works.
パーカーフードの紐を通す穴のハトメの金属の塗装がきっちりしていて、シンプルなフォルムと造形の中に、一際目立っています。
The metal paint on the pigeonholes for the hood strings is very tight and stands out in the simple form and shape of the figure.
ぷりぷりのお尻。不思議なカタチのつま先をしています。
Plump buttocks. Strange shaped toes.
付属品のノミとハンマー。彫刻の道具ですね。どちらもソフビ製で、ノミは無垢でできており、ハンマーはおそらく２パーツ構成で接着されているようです。

分解すると、成型色は驚くべきことに白でした。ほぼすべて塗装されているということです。

量産品とは思えない、凝った塗装はレストアさんの十八番です。反面、怖いのが塗装剥げなのですが、レストア君に至っては、その心配はあまり感じませんでした。とにかくカンチャクの渋みが的確で、キツくて動かすと塗装が傷つきそうと感じるストレスがないのです。

レストア君と、これまでの作品とのスタイルの違いにも注目です。
レストアさんの原型の魅力といえば、西洋彫刻のようなリアリティある筋骨格と、ソフビ的なデフォルメの融合にあると思っています。
対して、レストア君は、全身がツルリとしていて、これまでの作品とは趣きが異なりますね。
僕が考えるに、これは次元の違いを表しているのではないでしょうか。レストア君がいる世界は、現実世界と地続きで、ネオ・ジャパンの世界はレストア君からみると虚構の世界ということです。レストア君は、トイコレクターであり、見習い原型師でもある。それは、トイコレクターである我々もまた、原型師となりうる可能性があるということを示唆してくれています。
The difference in style between Mr. Restore and his previous works is also noteworthy.
The charm of Mr. Restore's prototype lies in the combination of realistic musculature like Western sculptures and soft vinyl-like deformation.
On the other hand, Restore's whole body is smooth and different from your previous works.
In my opinion, this represents a difference in dimension. Restoration-kun's world is a continuation of the real world, while the Neo Japan world is a fictional world from Restoration-kun's point of view. Restoration-kun is a toy collector and an apprentice sculptor. This implies that we, as toy collectors, can also become prototypers.
