９月に抽選販売された東和玩具さんの新作ウータムです。
東和玩具さんは、ジャンボ指人形シリーズでソフビ作家としてデビューをして、人気を博しております。初の嵌合による多パーツ構成ソフビとなります。
ソフビ作品として初当選でしたが、東和玩具名義前に陶人形を購入させていただいたことがありました。
ウータムは制作に一年を要した作品であり、ソフビ作家としては、とてもめずらしいことに、作品に対する想い・テーマなどが綴られた「ウータム制作にあたり」 という文章が、当選メールにしたためてありました。
ソフビ作家さんの多くは、自分の作品について寡黙であることが多く、そのお陰で想像を膨らませて、僕のようなヘッポコが作品について、あーでもないこーでもないと好きなことを書けるんですが、こうして作家さん自身の言葉で、作品のことが知れるのは嬉しいことです。
「ウータム制作にあたり」 によりますと、ウータムは「知性」という言葉より着想を得たキャラクターであり、太ももの部分に湯口をつくり（湯口については、こちらの記事を参照にしてください-ソフビ雑記14:ソフビの抜きやすい・抜きにくいという話 - smogbom）、生き物として不自然な首や腰にカンチャクの横線が出ないようにしたい、ということが決まっていたようです。この仕様による制作難易度が高く、失敗しないよう理解してワックス型を作ることに労力と時間を要したとのことです。
全高約１３センチ、全５パーツ構成、成型色は白緑。

Towa Toy debuted as a soft vinyl artist with their Jumbo Finger Puppets, and has been very popular. It is a multi-part soft vinyl.This was the first time I won a prize as a soft vinyl work, but I had purchased ceramic dolls before under the name of Towa Toy. Wootam was a work that took a year to make, and it was very unusual for a soft vinyl artist to have a sentence written in the winning e-mail, "On the making of Wootam" describing his thoughts and themes for the work.
Most of the soft vinyl artists are very quiet about their works, which allows a lazy person like me to write whatever I want about their works, but it is nice to know about their works in their own words.According to the "On the making of Wootam", Wootam is a character inspired by the word "intelligence", and he has a mouth on his thigh (for more information about the mouth, please refer to this article - Soft vinyl miscellaneous article 14: Soft vinyl is easy to pull out and hard to pull out - smogbom). It seems that it was decided that they wanted to avoid the unnatural horizontal lines of the kanchaku on the neck and waist. The difficulty of making this figure was so high that it took a lot of time and effort to make a wax mold with the understanding that it would not fail.
The figure is about 13 cm tall, made up of 5 parts, and molded in white green.

手にすっぽりと収まるかわいいサイズと、分割線が毛の流れに埋もれて目立たず、自然なまとまり感のある作品となっています。かなり分厚く成形されていて、もつと他にない重さを感じるのも面白い点です。
The size of the piece is cute enough to fit in your hand, and the split lines are not noticeable because they are buried in the flow of hair, giving the piece a natural sense of cohesion. It is also interesting to note that it is molded quite thickly and feels uniquely heavy when held.
踵が飛び出ていて、設置感がかなり良好。お座りができるこの仕様、金型がＬ字型になってしまうので、成形時の抜きのときにどうしても形が変わってしまって、ピッタリ立つように作るのが結構難しいみたいです。
The heel juts out, and the installation feel is quite good. It seems to be quite difficult to make them so that they stand perfectly, because the mold is L-shaped, so the shape inevitably changes when it is pulled out during molding.
成型色の白緑色が美しいです。
白緑（びゃくろく）は、孔雀石を原料とする岩緑青を砕いて作る岩絵の具の色で、個人的に非常に日本的な色だと思っています。東和な色ですね。

インパクト大なお顔。
四つ目は、優れた観察眼を持つという特徴を示しているそうです。
顔はミントグリーンの塗料が厚塗りされています。彩色の境目の違和感がなく、東和玩具さんのスキルも然ることながら、同系色を選ぶことによるセンスも光っています。

The face has been painted with a thick layer of mint green paint. There is no sense of discomfort in the borders of the coloring, and Towa Toy's skill, as well as their sense in choosing similar colors, shines through.
顎が大きく開いています。このような大きな窪みは、ソフビ成形においてリスクが高いです。空気が抜けずに気泡が残ってしまったり、うまく抜けずに伸びてしまったり、ちぎれてしまったり。今作においては、太もものカンチャクから抜くというこだわった仕様によって、このような大胆な顔を作ることに成功していると感じました。
The jaw is wide open. Such a large dimple is a high risk in soft vinyl molding. Air bubbles may be left behind, or they may not be pulled out properly, resulting in stretching or tearing. In this work, I felt that we succeeded in creating such a bold face by extracting it from the kanchaku of the thighs.
この方向で抜くことによって、唇の部分に溜まる空気が抜けやすいようになってるんだと思います。

背中やお腹には偏光系（シルバー？）のスプレーがしてあります。

四つ目以外に際立ったアイコニックな特徴のないウータムですが、端々の微かなニュアンスが素晴らしいです。指は、微妙に指差すような感じに造形されていて、シンプルな佇まいからは想像できないほど、豊かな表情を魅せてくれます。
Although the uttam has no outstanding iconic features other than the four eyes, the subtle nuances on the edges are wonderful. The fingers are sculpted in such a way that they are subtly pointing, giving the piece a richness of expression that you would never expect from its simple appearance.
足は、前述のとおり非常に設置感がよく、突き出た踵と類人猿の発達した親指が確実に地面を取られてくれます。

メーカー名の刻印はなく、足裏までしっかりと造形されています。

ウータムは古代中国の伝説上の漢字の発明者である蒼頡と、森の住人をモチーフとしているようです。
蒼頡は、四つ目で優れた観察眼を有し、足跡を見ればどんな動物か分かったので、形によって概念を表現し、記録して人々に伝えることができると気付き、そこから漢字が生まれたと言います。
頬にあるフランジは、森の賢人と称されるオランウータンの有力なオスに見られる特徴で、社会的地位に応じて、形態を大きく変えるという生態を持ちます。
これらを足したり引いたりミックスした結果、「知性」 をビジュアル化したのが、ウータムという作品ですが、今後、知性の対義語である「感性」 をテーマにした作品を考えているそうです。こちらも非常に楽しみで、対決できる日を待っています。

抽選の倍率が高かったようで、欲しい気持ちはみんな同じですが、作家さん本人に直接かなり厳し目な意見もあったようです。自分が当選しておいて、偉そうな感じになってしまいますが（自分もいくら応募しても当選しない作品が何個もあるので許してください）、イチャモンつけてゴネて「面倒な人だから当ててあげよう」 を狙うよりも、もっと気持ちの良い取り引きをしたほうが、お互い良いと思うんですけどね……。作家さんだって人間だし、嫌になって制作のモチベーション下がったら、それこそ本末転倒ではないでしょうか。コレクターの証を立てるアピール方法なら、ブログを書くのも手ですぜ、旦那。
