3月に抽選された東和玩具さんのジャンボ指人形シリーズより「大蛇怪獣キヨジーラ」、（おそらく）別シリーズの指人形「カラポ」です。
どちらも1パーツ構成の指人形。東和玩具さんは、ソフビ制作されてから精力的に指人形を発表されていますが、初入手。フィブルに付属していた1パーツ構成のポジェス宣教師が契機になりました。ウータムを最初に手にして、素晴らしさに感銘を受けました。あまりに心酔してしまった故に、東和玩具さんの作品は、ウータム、テタン、フィブルのような他パーツ構成のソフビのほうが良い、と指人形を半ば敬遠していたような感じでしたが、今はそれまでに自分を殴りたいような気持ちです。なんと長きに渡って機会を失していたことか！！
キヨジーラは全高約11.5センチ、蓄光成形。
カラポは全高約8センチ、ベージュ成形。
どちらも1パーツ構成の指人形です。
From Towa Toy's Jumbo Finger Puppet Series, drawn in March, are "Kyozilla the Great Snake Monster" and (possibly) another series of finger puppets, "Karapo".
Both are one-part finger puppets. Towa Toys has been vigorously releasing finger puppets since their soft vinyl production, but this is the first time I have acquired them. The one-part Poges missionary that came with the Fibble was an opportunity for me. I first got my hands on Wutam and was impressed by its splendor. I was so enthralled that I kind of half-way through the finger puppets, thinking that Towa Toys' work was better with other part-configured soft vinyl like Wutam, Tetan, and Fibble, but now I feel like beating myself up for that. What a long lost opportunity!
Kyozilla is approximately 11.5 cm tall and molded with luminescent molding.
Carapo is approximately 8 cm tall and molded in beige.
Both are one-part finger puppets.

カラポはアステカ・メソアメリカ文明風のデザイン。この意匠は、アステカのカレンダーらしいです。アステカといえば、明確に滅亡の時期を決めていたことで知られていますね。
キヨジーラはちぎり絵風のデザインとなっています。

Carapo is designed in the style of Aztec Mesoamerican civilization.This design seems to be an Aztec calendar. The Aztecs are known to have had a definite time of destruction.
Quijojilla is designed in a chigiri-e style.
今回、おそらくカポラに関連する構想ノート？ ストーリーボードのような資料が付属しておりました。東和玩具さんの当選メールにも作品の背景・設定等が記されておりますが、言葉ではなく絵そのもので作品の背後に広がる世界観を知ることができます。

原型公開されている、新作のズノウロボの姿もあります。
近代文明の象徴って感じですね。

一連のシリーズは、国の起こり、成り立ち、過渡期を表現した作品群ということで、独自の文化を発達していた世界同士が接近して、どのような経過を至ったかという流れを示しているように自分は感じました。

まずは大蛇怪獣キヨジーラから。
ドラマ裸の大将でおなじみ、放浪の画家、故・山下清の代表作のひとつ、「清の見たゆめ」 より着想を得た作品とのことです。山下清のちぎり絵って、ドラマで見るよりも非常に繊細です。アカデミックにアートを学んだわけではないので、アウトサイダーアートの側面もあり、インディーズソフビとも親和性が高い、とキヨジーラを見て感じました。素晴らしいモチーフ選び。
Let's start with Kiyojira, the giant snake monster.
This work was inspired by "Kiyoshi's Dream", one of the masterpieces of the late wandering artist Kiyoshi Yamashita, who is well known for the TV drama "The Naked General". Kiyoshi Yamashita's chigiri-e (tear-off pictures) are much more delicate than they appear in the drama. I felt that since he did not study art academically, his work has an aspect of outsider art and has a high affinity with indie soft vinyl. Great choice of motifs.
実際手にとって感じたのは、フィギュアとしての存在感の強さです。
個人的な理由としては、「先端部」の多さがあるのではないでしょうか。
一本角、右身・左耳、右手の指3本・左手の指3本、尻尾……実に10箇所もの先端が一体のキャラクターにあります。
スラッシュ成形の制約で、引き抜く方向から形状としての制約があり、その制限の中で、成形できうるダイナミックな形状が選択されています。また、尖った部分というのは、原型製作（蝋型複製のとき）、製品制作のときに空気が噛んで成形不良を起こすリスクが高まりますので、リスキーでチャレンジングな造形と言えます。

乳白の蓄光成形に、緑の塗料が透過しているのか、薄く緑がかったような色味があり夢をモチーフとしたキャラクターに、よりドリーミンな印象が強く醸し出しています。
蓄光成形の特性で、細やかなディテールが見えにくくなっている部分もありますが、この効果もまたこの成形でしか得られない良さとかんじます。
The milky-white luminescent molding has a light greenish tint, perhaps due to the green paint penetrating through it, creating a more dreamlike impression of the character with a dream motif.
The characteristics of the luminescent molding make it difficult to see some fine details, but I feel that this effect is also a good quality that can only be obtained with this molding.
蛇腹は缶詰のみかんのような愛らしさ・みずみずしさ。
鱗の表現が大好きです。判を押したかのような感じ。とても愛らしいです。
The bellows are as lovely and fresh as canned oranges.

光らせたところ。塗料ムラがなく、キャラクターの特徴がぱっきりと出ております。

続きまして、カラポです。
黄金の兜を戴いております。ブヨブヨとした身体、分厚いたらこ唇。
構想ノートを参照にすると、翼を生やすことができるようです。
冠にも羽根の意匠がありますね。

この時代の化粧って、どういう意味合いがあったんでしょうね。自分を美しく着飾る以外にも、部族の違いを分けるとか、シャーマンや神官が神の化身として憑依した姿を表現するとか……。

I wonder what makeup meant in this period. Besides dressing yourself beautifully, I wonder if it was used to distinguish tribal differences, or to express the possessed appearance of a shaman or priest as an incarnation of a god. ......
富の集中がテーマにあるというのが、シリーズの根幹にあるようです。
富の象徴でもある黄金はメソアメリカ文明において、太陽の象徴でした。太陽の消失こそが世界の最後であり、それを回避するために凄惨な生贄の儀式を行い、生贄の確保のために戦争にまで発展した歴史があったとか。近代では野蛮とされて忌避された生贄の儀式ですが、当時の文明においては、それは平穏のための神事で、生贄に選ばれることは大変名誉なことで、儀式までの間は大変なもてなしを受けたとか（漫画スプリガンから得た知識）。西洋文明は、生贄の儀式を野蛮として禁止しましたが、干し首とかミイラとか人体パーツ蒐集家が多いのもそちらの印象だし、それってどうなんでしょうね。
科学知識の無かった時代、平穏と安寧が生贄の儀式によってもたらされましたが、今の時代はどうやって幸福がもたらされるのでしょう。生贄になんてなりたくなりませんが、現代のほうが世界平和の御世への道は暗中模索というのは皮肉と感じます。
