東宝配給の1963年の特撮ホラー映画「マタンゴ」の版権ソフビとなります。
映画マタンゴは、ウィリアム・H・ホジスンの海洋綺譚「夜の声」を原作として、絶海の孤島に遭難し、極限状態における人間の本性を描き出すことをテーマとしています。
マーケティングのミスマッチなどもあり、興行成績は振るわなかったものの、マニアの間ではカルト作品の一つとして語り継がれているそうです。ソフビのモチーフとしても人気があり、多くの作家やメーカーさんより販売されています。
自分はブログでも度々紹介しているユーチューバーの青木カズローさんの動画に触発されて、マタンゴ欲しいなー、と思っていました。シラハマトイさんからの発売が予告されていたので、狙っていたのでした！
This Matango was sold by lottery in February by Shirahama Toys.
It is a soft vinyl version of the 1963 special effects horror film "Matango," distributed by Toho.
The movie Matango is based on William H. Hodgson's maritime romance "The Voice of the Night," and its theme is to depict human nature in extreme conditions lost on an island in the middle of the ocean.
Although the film did not do well at the box office, partly due to a marketing mishap, it is said to be one of the cult films among enthusiasts. It is also popular as a soft vinyl motif, and is sold by many artists and manufacturers.
I was inspired by a video by Kazuro Aoki, a You Tuber who often introduces his work on his blog, and thought, "I want to buy a Matango. I had my sights set on it since Shirahamatoy had announced its release!

ヘッダーに穴が空いているので、壁にかけて、このまま飾ってもクールですね！

原型はジェットターレのハンサムタロウエムさん。確かに、クモンや別名義？ であるチャノマガングとも異なるような造形に思います。

孤島に残され、極限状況の人間ドラマという題材は、結構見る機会があるような気がします。調べてみると、無人島小説ってジャンルがあるくらいです。
映画マタンゴを特別にしているのは、第三の生物マタンゴ（キノコ人間）の存在です。水爆実験の放射線によって変異したキノコを食した人間の成れの果てとされ、頭部はキノコ雲がモチーフです。このイメージは、反核がテーマになっていることが明確です。
それともう一つ。キノコを食べることで人間がキノコ人間へ変異して、やがて自我を失ってしまいます。変身途中はわずかな知能があるようですが、耐久性は人間のころよりむしろ下がってしまうようです。人間が自分の意志でキノコを食べることで変身することに意味があります。これは麻薬中毒を暗喩しているそうです。

マタンゴの頭部は、目がないデザインになっていて、それが不気味さを上長させています。
正面ってあるのかな、って思っていたんですが、傘が開いている方が正面みたいですね。

胴体の塗装は、茶色とオレンジの二色でシンプルに構成されています。

足はすらりと長いですが、設置感抜群でした。
分厚く成形されて、もつとずっしり。満足感が半端ないですね！
